Look at this great cover!
I just ordered The Mysteries of Udolpho. I can't wait to read it late at night by candlelight while the cold fall wind howls and the house creaks...and gun shots go off in the distance while prostitutes cackle at the corner and drunk women, walking home from the corner bar, berate their boyfriends at the top of their lungs. (I live in Southeast Baltimore, which, despite all this, I love.)
I also can't say winter because it's only early October. But it's already chilly at night. That's the best I can do.
I'm feeling rather giddy about this book. I promise to read The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire or something soon. For balance.
Still slogging through Emma. Everyone is getting on my nerves in this book. They just don't feel substantial or interesting enough. The writing is fabulous, of course. I'm sorry to say my heart is not engaged, though. Ah well.

Oh, dear - good luck reading by candli light, and better luck for reading Udolpho! It's a lovely book, but the often tiny print and endless descriptions of scenery might make this one a bit of a fire hazard should you droop too close to the flame. I hope you enjoy it, though!
